Kim Gaboury is an award-winning Canadian composer and music producer working in film, television, and with artists. From original scores and themes to music production and mixing, he collaborates closely with filmmakers and artists to create music with a distinct identity — serving the story, the project, and the people behind it.

Under the name aKido, he released five albums and earned nominations at ADISQ, GAMIQ, the CBC Bucky Awards, and the Independent Music Awards. His work as aKido eventually opened the door to film and television, leading to scores for projects including Inside the Mind of Leonardo (starring Peter Capaldi), Et au pire on se mariera, Coteau Rouge, Maïna (Canadian Screen Award nomination), Wong & Winchester (SOCAN Award for National Television), and Classé Secret (Prix Gémeaux for Best Original Score).

He has also composed themes for several CBC/Radio-Canada productions, including Grands Reportages, Pendant que la terre tourne, and Zone Info, while continuing to produce and mix music for artists such as Millimetrik, Will Driving West, Pawa Up First, and Diane Dufresne.

Kim began playing guitar at 12 and spent his early years in indie rock bands, including Magma Dogma and Zolof. Following a detour into graphic design, he returned to music full-time in 2004, when he also began working in film scoring alongside composer Michel Cusson on productions including Cavalia, The Rocket, and Dinosaurs Alive! IMAX. Their collaboration continued on television series such as Unité 9, À cœur battant, and more recently, ANTIGANG.

Today, his work moves between film, television, and artist projects — composing, producing, and mixing music with a distinct identity, whether it's built around a story, a screen, or an artist.

Since 2004, Kim has been releasing music under the name aKido, his personal electronic music project.

As aKido, Kim has released five albums and three EPs through his independent imprint, Nordique Records. The project has built a dedicated following and earned nominations at ADISQ, GAMIQ, and the Independent Music Awards. The Montreal press has described aKido as a “local underground high flier” and “the best-kept secret in our latitudes.”
